Are you remodelling your kitchen or are going to renovate it?
A lot of the time, it’s believed that these are same thing.
To people working in the construction, architecture or design industry professionals,
there are very different means behind the words.
Often these two terms are used intertangably but one refers to a simply update where the other is a more in depth project. Even when I started digging into the industry did I learn the difference.
RENOVATE VS. REMODEL
By definition to Renovate a space means to: restore to good condition, make new or as if new again; repair. This would include material updates such as cabinets, flooring, repainting, etc. Whereas Remodelling is more invasive and detailed. By Definition to Remodel is to alter the structure of; to remake. This refers to moving walls, changing structural elements and creating a different foot print.
What Does it Mean to Remodel a Residential Space?
Remodelling is more invasive and detailed. By Definition to Remodel is to alter the structure of; to remake. This refers to moving walls, changing structural elements and creating a different foot print.
NOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT IT MEANS TO PLAN A RENOVATION?
To Renovated means to refresh and revive. This type of project can include bringing it down to the studs but it doesn’t always entail a complete reconstruction of the space. When renovating you could be installing new flooring, putting in new cabinets, changing out light fixtures and even moving them.
“What Costs more a Remodel or a Renovation?
This most definitely depends on how much work you plan on doing. If you’re trying to keep things simple and just give it “facelift” then that’s going to be a significant amount less than if we’re taking down walls and adding beams.
Okay, so now I know the difference between a Renovation and a Remodel. What do I do next?
If you’re like majority of the world right now and hanging out at home more than usual, now is a great time to start planning your next project. Start with inspiration photos, take some overall measurements of your space and sketch some ideas.
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or to scale, just get your ideas onto paper and see what flows!
